UK Visas from Thailand 2026 — Visitor, Spouse, Fiancé, Settlement, Student

Visitor (6m/2y/5y/10y), Spouse/Partner, Fiancé, Settlement (ILR), Student and BN(O) UK visas prepared and lodged at VFS Bangkok by UK immigration advisers. Updated June 2026 for the latest UKVI fees and £1,035 IHS.

UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) decisions for applicants in Thailand are processed by the Sheffield decision-making centre and lodged at VFS Global Bangkok (10th floor, The Trendy Office Building, Sukhumvit Soi 13). The published refusal rate for Thai nationals on the Standard Visitor route is around 23% — almost always because of weak financial evidence, an inconsistent travel history, or a sponsor letter that does not match what UKVI's caseworker guidance requires. We are based in Pattaya, prepare every application against the 2026 Immigration Rules and caseworker notes, draft the cover letter and sponsor declaration UKVI expects, book the VFS Bangkok appointment and represent refusals on Administrative Review or fresh application. Updated June 2026 for the April fee increase, the £1,035/year IHS rate and the £29,000 spouse-route minimum income.

How it works

Our process

  1. 1

Day 1 — Free eligibility & risk review

We confirm the right route, model the financial test (income vs savings vs combination), and flag refusal risks specific to your profile (single Thai female under 30, prior refusal, weak ties).

  2. 2

    Day 2–7 — Evidence build

Document checklist tailored to your case. We chase, translate and certify everything that needs it (Thai bank letters in English, kor ror 2, chanote translations).

  3. 3

Day 7–10 — Online application + IHS payment

We complete the UKVI online form in your account, declare correctly against the Immigration Rules, pay the visa fee and IHS.

  4. 4

Day 10–14 — VFS Bangkok appointment

Biometric appointment booked at VFS Global Bangkok (Sukhumvit 13). We brief you on document upload, fast-track and priority options (£500 priority, £1,000 super-priority).

  5. 5

    Day 14–42 — Decision

Standard Visitor: 3 weeks. Priority Visitor: 5 working days. Spouse/Fiancé: 12 weeks standard, 5 weeks priority. Decision notice and passport returned by VFS.

  6. 6

    Day 42+ — If refused

We obtain the refusal notice within 24 hours, identify the failed paragraphs, and advise Administrative Review (28-day window) or a stronger fresh application — usually the faster path.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What does a UK visa from Thailand actually cost in 2026?

UK government application fees effective 8 April 2026: Standard Visitor 6 months GBP 135, 2 years GBP 506, 5 years GBP 903 and 10 years GBP 1,128; Route to Settlement GBP 2,064; Indefinite Leave to Remain GBP 3,226. Student, BN(O), IHS, priority, TB-test and VFS charges vary by route and service. Our professional fees are separate and start at ฿18,000 for Visitor applications and ฿55,000 for Spouse/Fiancé applications.

Why are Thai applicants refused so often on the Visitor route?

UKVI's published refusal rate for Thai nationals on Standard Visitor is roughly 23%. The top three reasons in caseworker notes: (1) financial evidence does not show the funds are genuinely available — sudden large deposits without explanation are the #1 killer; (2) weak ties to Thailand (no property, single, unemployed, no dependants) make the caseworker doubt return intention; (3) sponsor letter does not match the bank statements or has no accommodation details. We pre-empt all three before submission.

What is the minimum income for a UK Spouse or Fiancé visa in 2026?

£29,000 gross annual income from the UK-based sponsor (raised from £18,600 in 2024). Alternatives: £88,500 in cash savings held by either party for 6+ months, or a combination (£29,000 – sponsor income × 2.5 + £16,000). Self-employed sponsors must show one full SA302 + tax year overview at £29,000+. Dependent children no longer add to the income requirement (rule change April 2024).

Can I apply for a UK visa while in the UK on a Visitor visa?

No. Visitor visa holders cannot switch to Spouse, Fiancé or Settlement routes in-country. The application must be made from outside the UK — for Thai nationals that means lodging at VFS Bangkok. A Fiancé visa entered with permission to marry within 6 months CAN be switched in-country to Spouse after the marriage.

How long does it take from VFS Bangkok appointment to decision?

Standard Visitor: 3 weeks (UKVI service standard). Priority Visitor (+£500): 5 working days. Super-priority Visitor (+£1,000): next working day where available. Spouse/Fiancé/Partner standard: 12 weeks; priority service (+£500) reduces to ~5 weeks. Settlement/ILR standard 6 months; priority 5 working days; super-priority next-day. Student standard 3 weeks.

Do I still need a TB test for a UK visa from Thailand?

Yes — Thailand is on the UKVI TB-test list. Any visa for more than 6 months (Spouse, Fiancé, Student, Settlement, BN(O)) requires a clear TB certificate from an IOM-approved clinic. In Thailand the approved clinic is IOM Bangkok (Sathorn). Cost ~฿4,500, valid 6 months, results in 1–3 working days.

My UK visa was refused. Administrative Review or fresh application?

Visitor refusals have no right of appeal — only paid Administrative Review (£80) within 28 days, decided in around 6 months, with a roughly 13% success rate. A targeted fresh application addressing the exact reasons for refusal is almost always faster and more successful — typical 4–6 weeks vs 6 months for AR. Spouse/Fiancé refusals (Appendix FM) carry a full right of appeal to the First-tier Tribunal (Immigration); we work with UK-based barristers for those.

Where is VFS Global Bangkok and what should I bring to the appointment?

VFS UK Visa Application Centre Bangkok: 10th Floor, The Trendy Office Building, Sukhumvit Soi 13, Wattana, Bangkok. Bring: passport, printed appointment confirmation, IHS receipt, printed application, all supporting documents (we provide a labelled bundle), and a charged phone. The biometric (fingerprints + photo) takes 10–20 minutes; document upload is included if you take the VFS Premium Lounge service (+฿1,800).

Can my Thai partner work in the UK on a Fiancé visa?

No. The 6-month Fiancé visa carries 'no work, no study, no recourse to public funds' conditions. Once married within the 6-month window and switched to Spouse leave in-country, the new BRP/eVisa permits any employment (including self-employment) and study. Plan the income and accommodation timeline around the 6-month switch.

Do you handle BN(O) Hong Kong applications from Thailand?

Yes. We act for BN(O) status holders and dependants resident in Thailand, including the 5-year visa, IHS calculation across 5 years (£5,175 adult, £3,880 child), accommodation evidence and the dependent route for non-BN(O) family members. The route gives unrestricted work and study rights with ILR after 5 years and citizenship after 6.

Why use a Pattaya-based UK adviser instead of applying yourself?

UKVI publishes 200+ pages of caseworker guidance per route. The difference between a refused Visitor visa (23% refused) and a successful Spouse visa requiring £29,000 of correctly-evidenced income is not the form — it is the cover letter, financial narrative and document bundle that match the guidance. Our team includes UK immigration advisers, we file weekly at VFS Bangkok and we know which Thai bank letter formats UKVI Sheffield accepts at first read.
